Short Trips from Rugby

Take a short trip on Hazel Street and see how far you can cruise. The places listed in the menu are all within reach on a short break.

Short Breaks are available Friday to Monday or Monday to Friday. The free extra day's cruising Monday to Friday allows you to reach more destinations.

Of course you should be taking it easy on the canals. You may enjoy your holiday better if you cruise for a short while, then moor up and enjoy the countryside, a walk, a local attraction or a pub, then when you're ready move on again.

Timings are based on 3mph and 6 locks per hour. With the speed limit of 4mph, it is necessary to slow down past moored boats. During busy periods it you may have to wait for access to locks. Emergency stoppages can occur at any time, preventing the use of locks, due to accident water shortage or floods.

Tell someone at your hire base where you intend to go and ask if there are likely to be any problems before you set out.

It is assumed that you will not want to cruise for more than 8 hours per day - this is too much for many people. Allowing 2 hours cruising on the start day there are 18 hours (9 hours each way) on a Friday to Monday short break. There is an extra free day on a Monday to Friday short break giving you 26 hours maximum cruising (13 hours each way).
